A little over a year since Namma Metro started operating on a combined stretch of 42.3 kms of Bengaluru along the Purple and Green Lines, the much-awaited first rollout of the six-coach train will happen on Friday. Currently, all the trains have three coaches, often resulting in overcrowding during peak hours.
The first six-compartment train is set to run on the Purple Line between Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road. According to reports, the first compartment will be reserved for women, while currently the first two doors of the first compartment are kept aside for the use of women.
The BMRCL is set to receive the delivery of other coaches in phases in order to run six-coach trains during peak hours. By June 2019, all trains are expected to have six coaches.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Company Limited celebrated its first anniversary on Sunday.
In one year (between June 18, 2017- June 16, 2018), the BMRCL has recorded 12,29,49,982 (12 crore) individual journeys with an average daily ridership of 3,36,849, resulting in a total revenue of Rs 327.93 crore.
BMRCL Managing Director and Karnataka Chief Secretary (Urban Governance) Mahendra Jain said, ““We wish to profusely thank citizens for using Metro as their preferred mode of travel. Our appreciation for all Namma Metro members in their efforts to improve the services! I will continue to strive to quickly expand the network and enhance the travel experience.”
While the Green Line between Nagasandra- Yelachenahalli spans 24.22 km, the Purple Line between Byappanahalli-Mysuru Road runs for 18.08 km.
The metro is set to expand its network further in the city, with Phase 2 already being approved.
There are two proposed lines, Yellow and Red, which will connect stretches between R V Road – Bommasandra (19.143 km) and Gottigere – Nagawara (21.415 km) respectively
