Hours after a driver fled with a van stocked with new currency notes worth Rs 1.37 crore, Bengaluru police found the vehicle abandoned at around 1 am found near Mount Carmel College in Vasanth Nagar.
Bengaluru police found the vehicle abandoned just 3 km away from KG road where it went missing. The cash was meant for refilling a Bank of India ATM on KG road.
The police, however, are yet to trace the accused identified as Dominic Roy.
“There were three trunks filled with cash. One trunk from the van is missing, which contained Rs 92 lakh worth of cash,” Prasanth, Branch Manager of Logicash told TNM.
The remaining cash was intact. The police found the lock of the trunk had been broken.
According to the police, the accused drove away with the cash as soon as the gunman and the supervisor got out of the vehicle after they reached the ATM stop at around 2:15 pm on Wednesday.
A source at the Upparpet police station told The News Minute on Wednesday that the driver was hired on contract by Logicash Solution, a cash management service provider.
“After reaching the ATM, the gunman got off the van. Roy allegedly told the gunman that he will take a U-turn and would come back to the ATM so that it would be easy for him to put the cash. The gunman reported to the police when the driver did not return after 10 minutes,” the official at Upparpet police station said.
