Hindu parents in Karnataka claim 'love jihad' after daughter marries Muslim man and leaves home

Anusha however contends that she married Javed on her own will and there was no compulsion

In yet another case of alleged ‘love jihad’, the parents of a Hindu girl have filed a complaint stating that their daughter who married a Muslim man is ‘missing’. The complaint states that Anusha Hegde married Javed Khan in spite of opposition from her parents after meeting him while pursuing engineering studies at a college in Mysuru.

The father Arvind Hegde has now lodged a complaint saying she was forced into the inter-religious wedding last year. Hegde alleged that his daughter had come to their home in Shivamogga on December after being harassed by her husband.

On December 17, she did not return home after leaving home to go shopping, and has been missing since then. The complainant suspects that the husband came to Shivamogga and forcefully took Anusha with him and has requested the police to conduct a detailed investigation, reported The Hindu.

Anusha however contends that she married Javed on her own will and there was no compulsion. She also said that she was with her husband in Mysuru and there was no discord between them.

Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare said that the parents of the woman had lodged a similar complaint with the police in Mysuru a year ago and the mother had said that the marriage took place on her consent, according to The Hindu.

However he also added that the police would inquire into the fresh complaint. A case has been registered in the Jayanagar police station.

Cases of ‘love jihad’ follow a similar pattern with the police under pressure from pro-Hindu groups to ‘rescue’ the woman from the Muslim man.

The police in Dakshina Kannada district are investigating the case of a woman who went missing two days before her wedding in another alleged case of ‘love jihad’.

Recently, a 20-year-old Hindu woman in Mangaluru was forced to break off her relationship with a Muslim man after sustained pressure from a right-wing group.

Members of Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, “counselled” the woman, alleging that her boyfriend was a drug dealer.
