Karnataka's transport ministry will now crackdown on vehicles that carry misogynistic and hate slogans against women. With several vehicles, including autorickshaws and cabs carrying slogans that are in bad taste and show women in poor light, the government seems to have woken up to the possible damage such an act could do.

On Friday, actor-turned-politician Jayamala Ramachandra raised the issue in the state assembly and asserted that they were in terrible taste, reports Shyam Sundar Vattam for Deccan Chronicle

In the wake of sexual crimes against women increasingly on the rise, such posters or slogans on vehicles should no longer be left unaddressed, the member of legislative council said.

Pointing out that several of the slogans were sexual in nature and insulted women, Jayamala Ramachandra urged the government to take action against the vehicle owners responsible for doing so.

To this, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that such acts were in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act 1989, and that the government will order for immediate removal of such objectionable posters. He added that for any vehicle to carry advertisements or posters on them, prior permission has to be taken from the transport department. Vehicles carrying objectionable slogans will be seized, the minister said.
