It’s an undeclared bandh situation in Bengaluru as Cauvery protests intensify

Bengaluru Police have declared Section 144 across the city and imposed a curfew in some areas to maintain law and order. On Tuesday morning, the Twitter handle of the Bengaluru police said that Section 144 had been declared across the city. Section 144 would remain in force until Wednesday.

Bengaluru Police have also urged the public to only follow their Twitter handle for updates on the law and order situation in the city.

They have imposed curfew in areas around 15 police stations in Bengaluru: Byataranayapura, RR Nagar, Magadi Road, Vijayanagar, Kengeri, KP Agrahara, Chandra Layout, Yeshwanpur, Mahalakshmi Layout, Peenya, RMC Yard, Rajagopalnagar, Rajajinagar, Nandini Layout and Jnanabharati.

In the morning BMTC and KSRTC buses were not operating as many buses were stranded in Whitefield, KR Puram and Peenya areas.

However, Manjunath Shastry, general secretary of state bus drivers' association, said that buses have started plying and by afternoon all BMTC buses are expected to be on the streets.

Metro services are still not operating. Shops too have not opened.

Emergency services however, will remain open.

Schools are closed on account of government holiday for Bakr-Eid.

Taxis are operating from the airport. 

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has released a statement urging people to maintain calm and not engage in violence.

“The Cauvery issue caused injustice every time. It has hurt every Kannadiga. We identify ourselves with the language we speak and the water we drink, but at the same time we must maintain peace. There have been attacks on Kannadigas and Kannadiga owned hotels in Tamil Nadu. Tamilians living in Karnataka have also been attacked in yesterday’s violence. I strongly condemn this. The government will take strict action against anyone who indulges in this kind of violence,” the Chief Minister said.

An emergency cabinet meeting has been called at 11 am to discuss the state of affairs.
