A newborn baby girl, barely a few hours old, was found in a garbage collection vehicle owned by the Mysuru City Corporation on Monday morning.
Saravana, the driver of the vehicle told The News Minute that he found the baby with blood stains. He and the cleaner of the vehicle were at a tea shop in Sayyaji Road ward on break after driving for two hours.
“In that 15-minute gap someone left a bag in the vehicle. We saw it move, and decided to open it to check what it was. I was shocked to see a baby," said Saravana.
He immediately took the baby to the KR police station, where a complaint was filed.
Currently she has been admitted in Krishna Rajendra Hospital in Mysuru.
“The baby should have been born in one of the nursing homes around the area. We will find out who abandoned the baby,” said a source at KR police station.
According to the 2011 census, the sex-ratio in Karnataka was 968 females per 1000 males. In the same year a PIL submitted to the Supreme Court said that of 11 million abandoned kids in India, 90% were girls.
