Days after she set off a major controversy in Karnataka by alleging that AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala is getting undue favours in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, IPS Officer Roopa Moudgil was transferred by the Karnataka government on Monday. DG (Prisons) Satyanarayana Rao has been asked to go on leave ahead of his retirement by the Karnataka Government.

She has now been posted to the Road Safety and Traffic department.

She was transferred along with four other officials in a notification that looked like a regular reshuffle of top cops.

The transfer comes just two days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued notices to both DIG Roopa Moudgil, and the officer that she has been involved in a very public spat with – DG (Prisons) Satyanarayana Rao. Prior to her transfer, there were rumours that DIG Roopa would be promoted to Satyanarayana Rao's position after his retirement.

The Chief Minister had slammed both the DG and the DIG for the leaking of Roopa’s report to the media.

Last week, DIG Roopa Moudgil had submitted a report to the DGP which claimed that Sasikala had bribed prison officials with Rs 2 crore and was getting special treatment in return.

On Saturday night, a number of convicts who had raised complaints to DIG Roopa about irregularities at the Parappana Agrahara prison, were transferred out to other district prisons. This transfer came even as a retired bureaucrat, Vinay Kumar, was charged with probing into the allegations regarding the prison.

In the transfer order, DGP (Intelligence) MN Reddy has been transferred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.; ADGP NS Megharikh has been posted as the ADGP Prisons; ADGP and Commissioner of Road Safety and Traffic ASN Murthy has been transferred to the Forest Cell; and the IG Intelligence Amrit Paul will be taking additional charge as DGP Intelligence.

The government also removed Jail Superintendent Krishna Kumar from duty pending investigation. The Deputy-in-charge R Anita will assume charge instead.
