SSLC results: Kannada news channel tells parents, children, exam result not the end

The channel urged parents to be supporitve

Hours before the results of the SSLC exams are to be announced, a Kannada news channel has issued a message on its website urging parents and children alike to treat the results as just a small part of life.

With several suicides of young people being covered in the media recently, the message issued by Suvarna News channel is a welcome move. As many as 2,346 young people up to the age of 30 killed themselves because they failed in exams, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau in its Accidental deaths and Suicides in India report for the year 2014. Results are to be announced at 3 pm on 

While stating that it is understandable for parents to have expectations of their children, expectations should not “turn into pressure that exerts an adverse influence on children’s lives”.

The website said: “Life is not limited to just passing exams. Life is very vast. Exams and their results are just a small part of life.”

It says that should children be faced unfavourable result, they should not give into fear. “Avoid making bad decisions, instead, take the result as a challenge.”

It also urged parents to go with their children to see the results and added they should be supportive if the results were not as expected. It also urged people to have alternative plans while reminding them that an exam could always be taken again.
