In a case of rash driving, the SUV in which former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s son was travelling in, rammed into a pedestrian, killing him on the spot near Davangere.

The incident occurred at 8.35 pm on Thursday night Nyamathi near Davangere when the victim Suresh was alighting from an auto-rickshaw.

On Thursday night, BJP State President, BS Yeddyurappa’s son and Shikharipura MLA MLA BY Raghavendra was travelling from Davangere to Shivamogga in his SUV when his driver allegedly knocked down 24-year-old man Suresh, who died instantly.

Suresh is a resident of Madapura village in Honnali taluk. According to an eyewitness, BY Raghavendra’s driver, Ravindra, was allegedly speeding and rammed into Suresh, who was crossing the road after getting off an auto rickshaw, a police officer told TNM.

“As soon as news spread that Yeddyurappa’s son was in the car, hundreds of people had gathered near the accident spot. Blood was coming out of the man’s head and his legs were damaged badly. He was already dead by the time I arrived,” the eyewitness told TNM.

Honnali Police Inspector JR Ramesh received a call at round 8.40 pm that a man had died after a car rammed into him.

Inspector Ramesh and former Minister Renukacharya visited the spot and took stock of the situation.

The Nyamati Police arrested the driver on Thursday night.

A case has been filed under IPC section 337 (rash and negligent driving) against BY Raghavendra’s driver, Ravindra at the Nyamathi police station.

The police are in the process of obtaining statements of the eyewitnesses and that of MLA BY Raghavendra.
