A one and half year-old child was brutally attacked by stray dogs in Chavara of Kollam district on Friday night.

Abhimanyu, son of Renjith, who is 18 months old, was lying in the veranda, while his mother went inside the house to take water for the child.

A few stray dogs dragged the child and took him outside the house.

One of the neighbours saw the dogs dragging the child outside and shouted for help.

Parents and neighbours then rushed to the spot and saved the child.

The child has got severe injuries on his head, legs and hands.

“His full body is injured. Head has got deep wounds. We had complained many times to the Panchayat that stray dog menace is severe. Usually stray dog menace was found in the roads. We had seen these dogs attacking those who pass through the road. But this is the first time they entered inside the house in this locality,” Renjith, the child’s father, told media.

He also complained that the Panchayat did not take any measures to put an end to this menace even after repeated complaints from the locals.

There have been a string of attacks in the last few months in various parts of the state with several people suffering injuries and in a few instances getting killed as well.
