Following the brutal murder of 20-year-old SFI leader, Abhimanyu, at the Ernakulam Maharaja’s college, Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac on Wednesday called for a social boycott of religious extremist outfits like the Popular Front of India (PFI), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Campus Front of India.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Finance Minister said that the SDPI and campus front deserved no democratic humility.

“They are religious extremists who deserve no place in the Kerala society,” he said.

Isaac started off by saying that the decision was now with the people. “SDPI’s main complaint is that they are accused of being religious extremists,” he said.

“Yes, PFI and SDPI are religious extremists. They act in the name of religion. They use the knife in the name of religion. They issue threats in the name of religion,” he added.

He went on to add, “what else can you call an organization that decides what the students should wear when they go for excursions? All of this is done in the name of religion,” he further added.

Isaac said that there is no need of any killers to support the interests of religious minorities. “For years, the religious minorities in the state have lived safely and they will continue to live safely,” he said in his post.

Isaac said that the society should unite to keep out these outfits from all spheres of the society.

Abhimanyu, the 20-year-old BSc Chemistry student, was killed when SFI students and Campus Front of India (Student Wing of PFI) workers allegedly clashed inside the campus last Sunday.

According to reports, the incident was triggered by an argument over sticking posters within the campus by the two groups. Abhimanyu was painting the walls of the campus to welcome the new batch of students whose classes were to begin on Monday.
