Jishnu Pranoy’s uncle, Sreejith, who has been fighting along with his sister Mahija to bring all the accused in the case related to the death of his nephew under law, resigned from his job at Deshabhimani - the CPI (M) mouthpiece.
An active worker of the CPI (M) in his native place Kozhikode, Sreejith quit his job on Tuesday, a day after the party’s Vannarakandi branch committee decided against renewing his party membership. Sreejith, who was fasting at the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram along with Mahija, in protest against the police action, ended the same on Monday night. Sreejith had been working in Deshabhimani since 2001. He was a correspondent at Nadapuram in Kozhikode and later in Vadakara. Last year, he was shifted to the advertising section of the newspaper.
According to Times of India, in his resignation letter to the newspaper, Sreejith said that attempts were being made to defame Deshabhimani by linking the daily with him at a time when he is fighting to get justice for Jishnu. While the party’s Vannarakandi branch committee decided to initiate disciplinary action against Sreejith, Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan said that there has been no such move.
Meanwhile, a scrutiny of the membership process is going on and the branch committee's decision not to renew his membership needs approval from the party local committee and area committee.
