Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala was perhaps expecting to be lauded for being a pro-active minister when he announced on Facebook that an errant police officer had been given a punishment transfer to Kasargod district. .Instead, he got bombarded by irate people questioning him why a posting in Kasargod was regarded as punishment.

The minister wrote on Facebook that Deputy Superintendent of Police from Chalakudy had been transferred after a video of him harassing a man and his family, refusing them to travel on a particular road.

A Facebook user Hisham Abbas sarcastically said that Kasargod was better than Ramesh’s “Chennithala’. (a village in the Aleppey district of Kerala).

Another user Sreekandakumar Pillai wrote: “Government should stop this system of punishment transfer wherein an errant officer is shunted to a place and ends up creating difficulties for people in that place. Instead, their salary should be reduced….  Is Kasargod not in Kerala?

Kichu Prasad wrote, “Kasargod is not a public toilet. We citizens who pay your taxes live here. Come here next time asking for vote, we will teach you a lesson then.”

“Is Kasargod the place to which bad officers are meant to be sent?” asked Sherif Muttam.

The comments went on an on trolling the minister, but a user named TB Thalangara rightly pointed out, “The question remains if the police officer or Kasargod has been punished.”
