An assistant professor and a Students Federation of India (SFI) leader were allegedly stabbed in separate incidents in Ernakulam’s Maharaja’s College, on Wednesday and Thursday, January 17 and 18. The victims are Arabic department assistant professor Nizamudheen KM and SFI unit secretary Nasser Abdul Rahman. SFI, the students' wing of the CPI(M), has alleged that students belonging to the Fraternity Movement were behind the attack. 

A TNIE report stated that on Wednesday, Nizamudheen, who is also a person with disability, was stabbed with a sharp weapon between his left arm and neck by a final-year student Mohammed Rashid. He was admitted to Ernakulam General Hospital. According to the report, the duo were arguing over the suspension of a member of the Fraternity Movement, Bilal. As the argument escalated Rashid allegedly stabbed the faculty member.

Meanwhile, Nasser was attacked by a group of students allegedly belonging to the Fraternity Movement during a theatre practice in the wee hours of Thursday. According to Mathrubhumi, the attack was triggered by a clash between the SFI and Fraternity Movement. Presently, Nasser is availing treatment in a private hospital in Kochi.

The Ernakulam Central police have registered two cases in this regard. Speaking to TNM, police sources from the station said that no one has been arrested so far and a probe is underway.
