The Kerala police have begun a massive crackdown on SDPI members across the state who are thought to be involved in the brutal murder of Maharaja's student and SFI (student wing of ruling CPIM) member Abhimanyu.

Abhimanyu was allegedly stabbed in the heart by SDPI and Campus Front of India members inside the college premises. This over an argument over which group gets to paint a wall to welcome the new batch of students.

SFI being the student wing of the ruling CPI (M) government and a political group which wields massive clout in most colleges in Kerala, the Pinarayi government has taken the issue seriously and a serious crackdown has been launched by the police.

"We have taken into custody two more persons from Mattanchery area. We have identified more than 27 people and a manhunt has begun. Mostly by today evening or by tomorrowmorning, we will detain a bigger number. The search is scattered in different places and only by the evening we will get a clarity about the numbers," Ernakulam DCP Himendranath told TNM.

The accused who have been taken into custody from the Mattanchery area are Jaffrin and Nawaz, the officers confirmed.

"We will raid everyone including the family members and relatives of the people who have been identified," the DCP further emphasised.

Meanwhile, Kerala DGP Lokanath Behara has said that Abhimanyu's murder was executed by a professional gang of killers.

The CPI (M) has meanwhile said that the "SDPI is carrying out Taliban model attacks" in Kerala.
