A 28-year-old youth from Padne in Kasargod district, who is one among the 21 people from the state who is believed to have joined the Islamic State, has reportedly died.

The Times of India reports that a social worker based in Padne received a message via the Telegram app on Thursday (April 13), informing him of Murshid's death, possibly in a drone attack at Nargarhar province in Afghanistan.

However, other media reports suggest that a missing youth from Kerala was killed in Afghanistan when the US dropped the “mother of all bombs”. The US bombed the Islamic State in Nangarhar province on Thursday, which, according to BBC has killed at least 36 people. According to Afghan ministry, no civilians have been killed in the attack.

The message was sent to the social worker by Ashfaq, one of the missing youths who is believed to have recruited several youngsters.

According to the report by Prashanth MP, the Telegram message read: “One more brother of ours got killed in the sake of Allah. Murshid of Vadakkeppuram. We consider him to be a shaheed and Allah knows the best."

Murshid was reportedly working in the Gulf, before he went missing in July last year to join the Islamic outfit. His family had then filed a missing persons complaint with Chandera police in the district.

Earlier in February, relatives of Hafeesudhien, a 23-year-old from Padane who also went missing last year, received a message that he had been killed in a drone strike
