The Kerala Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary examinations (Plus Two) that were scheduled to be held on March 17, has been postponed due to the upcoming Assembly polls next month. The postponed exams will begin on April 8, the Central Election Commissioner has informed. Assembly elections will be held in Kerala on April 6.

The decision regarding the same has been transferred to the state Election Commission. The state government had earlier requested the Election Commission to postpone the dates of the exam. A request regarding this was sent to the state election commission by the government.

Many concerns were raised after the elections were declared. Many teachers who would be on exam duty will also be having election duty, and this would have created clashes. Some schools where exams will be held were also charted as voting centres. These were intimated in the request sent to the Election Commission.

According to reports, while the Left leaning teachers association had been raising similar demands, associations which support the opposition parties had been demanding there is no need to postpone exams.

Hall ticket distribution was initially set to start this week. However after elections were declared there was much confusion among students and teachers alike.

It was in January this year that classes, though non-regular classes, started for the students for class 10 and Plus Two after being shut during the lockdown. The classes were started for the class 10 and Plus Two students alone considering that the board exams would be held in March.

There were reports earlier that question paper patterns for the exams have been changed with students given more options. More cool-off time would also be given for the students.
