Chairperson of the Kerala Women’s Commission MC Josephine has received several death threats and even human excreta by post. According to the Commission, the threats started after they booked a case against MLA PC George.

Speaking to the media. MC Josephine said that soon after the case was taken against the MLA, she had received a couple of letters.

The commission taken a case against George for making derogatory remarks against the woman actor abducted and assaulted in Kochi in February 2017. He had also publicly challenged the Women’s Commission when they had issued him a first warning.

However, Josephine mentioned that she cannot categorically say if the death threats had been made by  George’s followers, but it could be assumed so.

“This is intolerance towards women’s reaction to issues. I will hand over the letters to the Director General of Police. Attacking me is equal to attack towards all women in Kerala, as I represent them. I had been receiving the letters for some time now, but I was tolerant enough to wait and not give a complaint. I believe in showing maturity holding this post. I will not say that it is done by PC George’s followers. But those letters can indicate many things,” she told media in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

“We have done our duty after informing the Speaker of the assembly. I don’t think that he (MLA) has got any special privilege that shields him from being named in a case. The commission or I will not be shattered because of such threats,” she added.

In the last week of July, MLA George had questioned how the woman actor could go back to work a day after she was allegedly assaulted. The question was not only based on an untruth, and the MLA had made such insensitive comments in the past too. Following which the Commission sought Speaker’s advice in taking a case against him.

The Commission had observed that the MLA has been consistently making derogatory remarks about the survivor.
