The Kerala police launched further investigations in the assault case after new allegations emerged against actor Dileep. The case pertains to the abduction and sexual assault of a young woman actor in a moving car in Kochi in February 2017. The trial in the case was nearing completion after five years. But on January 5, the Kerala government moved the Supreme Court seeking an extension of the trial by six months. This was because the police had launched further investigations after serious allegations were made by filmmaker Balachandrakumar against Dileep.
