No more a happy occasion: Jagathi's return reduced to public fight between daughters

Written by : TNM

Three years after an accident left him paralaysed, Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar finds himself in the midst of a drama in which he has little to do with, at least now.  Jagathy, who has acted in over 1,000 films, made his first public appearance on Sunday even though he has not recovered fully. An event that might perhaps have been a happy moment for him and his fans, instead turned into a war of words between his legitimate and illegitimate daughters. A wheelchair-bound Jagathy was the chief guest of an event organized in Poonjar, Kottayam, to felicitate students who secured high marks in Standard 12 exams. The event was organized by MLA and former Kerala Chief Whip PC George. When Jagathy was brought to the dais in his wheelchair, his younger daughter Sreelakshmi rushed to him, hugged and kissed him in tears. Even though organizers attempted to take her away, she spent almost 10 minutes with her father on the stage. At some point, a man seated next to the actor gave up his chair so she could sit in it. In an ugly turn, both Sreelakshmi and the elder daughter Parvathy have given interviews to the media, saying that the other was wrong. Parvathy Shone has alleged that Sreelakshmi’s appearance was a stunt calculated at getting public attention. Parvathy incidentally is married to PC George's son, Shone, and in the video PC George can be seen pulling away Sreelakshmi from Jagathi. “It's a drama staged by those who have enmity towards my father to defame him and to play spoilsport at the event, Sreelakshmi's move is targeted at financial gains,” Parvathy told Manorama News. Parvathy also claimed that Sreelakshmi attended the function with the support of goons and that the visit was politically motivated. She also told Manorama Online that Sreelakshmi is not allowed to visit Jagathy except with the permission of the court, and that the family had allowed her to meet him on “humanitarian grounds” when he was brought back from the Vellore hospital. Just days before the March 2012 road accident that took away three years of his life, Jagathy had publicly revealed that he had a daughter with actor Kala, also said to be his second wife. Kala has defended Sreelakshmi’s actions, saying that there was no other way the girl could have met her father, as Parvathy and other members of her family had forbidden Sreelakshmi from meeting Jagathy.
