At the receiving end of online trolls who were reminding Thiruvananthapuram district collector, K Vasuki, about being late in declaring a holiday for students due to rains, she took to Facebook on Friday and urged them to put their creativity to better use instead in fighting climate change.

This post comes after several messages started doing the rounds on social media about the Collector being late to declare a holiday for the educational institutions in the capital city on July 31 due to rains. Following this, some students had already reached their schools and this compelled the school management to conduct classes.

“Dear Friends (Trollers; Trollens and Trollethies), Who bring smile on my lips and sparks in my thoughts......Along with "K"s of other, I also enjoyed trolls that you all made based on the heavy rain and resulting holidays,” began the Collector in her Facebook post.

She began by thanking and offering her regards to these trollers for “showing to the world the District Collector's Facebook page is open to the common public to share their views and opinions.”

Vasuki in her Facebook post went on to ask whether these people are familiar with Climate Change and its impact like Ockhi.

“Extremes in rainfall distribution and their unpredictability are going to keep on increasing in the coming future because of climate change.” she said.

The Collector went on to add, “If your boundless energy and fresh talents are channeled to reverse the climate change trends, you will not only save yourselves from future misery but also save the entire world from it.”

Following this, she invited everyone to offer their “skills, energy, dedication and wonderful creativity” to the C power 5 campaign.

The C power 5 campaign is an initiative that aims to create a sustainable lifestyle in view of the threat posed by climate change.

“Better late than never. Let us join our hands to eradicate the erosion of a healthy life from our planet so as to celebrate the same for the generations to come,” she added.

Earlier this week, Thiruvananthapuram came to a standstill with rains wrecking havoc in the city resulting in the death of one person. There was loss of power supply, uprooting of trees, delay in trains and flights and disruption in traffic on all major routes.
