Postmortem of Rajkumar, a finance dealer who allegedly died due to custodial torture, will be conducted once again after 37 days. Rajkumar (49) died on June 21 after allegedly being subjected to brutal third-degree torture at the Nedumkandam police station in Idukki.

The postmortem will be conducted at 10 am on Monday by three senior police surgeons. The post-mortem is set to be conducted once again on the directive of judicial commission headed by Justice K Narayana Kurup, as some lapses were found in the initial postmortem.

The postmortem will be done by Dr K Prasannan of Kozhikode Medical College, Dr PB Gujral of Palakkad district hospital and Dr AK Unmesh of Ernakulam Medical College, reports Mathrubhumi. Rajkumar’s body has been buried at the cemetery of St Sebastian’s Church in Vagamon.

The initial postmortem was done at Kottayam Medical College. According to reports, samples were not taken from internal organs and the details of injuries were also not recorded properly. The initial autopsy report said that Rajkumar had 22 injuries across his body. Four of his ribs and sternum were fractured. It also suggested that Rajkumar was subjected to the infamous Falanga torture, which involves continuously beating the soles of the victim’s feet.

As per reports, Rajkumar’s family will be made to confirm whether it is his body, following which the postmortem will be conducted at Kanjirapally taluk hospital. The procedure will be conducted in the presence of RDO (Rural Development Officer) of Idukki district.

Rajkumar was taken into custody by Nedumkandam police in a financial fraud case on June 12 and kept at the station until his arrest was recorded on June 15. He was later moved to Peermade sub jail and passed away on June 21. All the accused police officials in the case have been arrested by Crime Branch.
