Stray dog enters home in Kerala, attacks 11-month-old baby

The stray dog ran away after the baby’s mother threw a chair at the dog.

Weeks after the mauling of a 65-year-old woman by 50 stray dogs in Thiruvananthapuram sparked public outrage in the state, an 11-month-old baby was on Saturday attacked by a stray dog.

Isha was attacked by a dog inside her residence in Malappuram district in Kerala.

The incident occurred at around 9 am, when the stray dog entered the baby’s house in Chemmankadavu near Manjeri.

According to reports, the dog attacked 11-month-old Isha and tried to drag her away. The stray dog ran away after the baby’s mother threw a chair at the dog.

Isha, who sustained injuries was admitted to Kozhikode medical college.

Isha’s mother had laid the baby on a table after giving her a bath. On hearing her cries, the mother rushed to the room, only to see her child being dragged away by the dog, reports say.

The residents allege that despite complaining about the stray dog menace. the panchayat officials did not take necessary measures.  

Instances of attacks by stray dogs have been rising in the state of late.
