The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert on Wednesday on rising temperature levels in the state. Mercury levels in various parts of the state are likely to increase by upto 4 degree Celsius above normal on Wednesday.

Alappuzha and Palakkad districts are most prone to getting affected by the rising temperature level. Maximum mercury levels are expected to increase from 3 to 4 degree Celsius in these two districts on Wednesday.

“In other districts like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam ,Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragode, temperature level is likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius,” states the IMD release.

The state reported about 48 cases related to sunburn and 45 cases of heat rash on Tuesday, reports Deccan Chronicle. Including this data, the total number of heat related cases has reached 850.

The department also gave reassurance to the people of state that there are chances of light rainfall in parts of Kerala in the coming days. IMD has predicted chances of light rainfall on Wednesday in Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts on Wednesday.

Isolated rainfall across the state will also continue in the coming three days. Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts are likely to receive light shower on Thursday. Meanwhile, isolated light rainfall is also expected in Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Friday and Alappuzha on Saturday.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority in March had issued precautions to be taken by the people in view of the high temperatures.
