Four days after Karaikal police rescued a 22-year-old from the Blue Whale Challenge, Puducherry DGP S Guatham said that the victim was part of a WhatsApp group on which the link of the game was posted and all the members were from Chennai.

The WhatsApp group had a total of 73 members and many of them were friends and office colleagues of the victim.

Superintendent of Police (Karaikal South) Vamseedhara Reddy told The Times of India, "Our team found he was playing the Blue Whale challenge. He had received the link in `Mersal', a WhatsApp group created by his colleagues in Chennai.”

B Alexander, who hails from Karaikal and works in a manpower management company in Chennai, was rescued by police while he was drawing a blue whale on his hand using a knife.

His brother B Ajith had informed the police about it.

He had received the link of the game on the WhatsApp group and had played till the fifth level of the game.

He had provided all his personal details including mail id and also provided access to his social media accounts with passwords.

The DGP said that it remains unknown if the other members in the group have taken up the game or not and if so, they need to be rescued and the person who put the link in the group must be investigated, reported The New Indian Express.

A team comprising two crime inspectors, Marie Christian and Jesmond, had reached Alexander’s house and checked his phone.

Later, they restarted the phone with factory settings and all the data regarding the game was erased.

Police also sent the youth for counselling sessions.
