‘Spoke to him just an hour before attack’: Mother of missing Infosys employee after Belgium attacks

He was working in Infosys in Pune,India for over 4 years, before he left to Brussels for a project four years ago.

Raghavendra Ganeshan, an Infosys employee in Brussels has been missing for the last 24 hours since the attack in Brussels on Tuesday.

He was working with Infosys for over 4 years in Pune before he left to Brussels for a project four years ago.

He spoke to his mother, Annapoorni Ganeshan, who lives in Mumbai at 1:25pm IST through Skype from his house. He called at 1:11 pm IST and spoke to him for 10 minutes. "He told me that he was leaving to work. About an hour later I got a call from my other son, who lives in Germany, saying that there was a blast in Brussels. I checked the news. Initially I only saw it was in the airport. But later there were news flashes that there was a blast in the metro line- between Merode to Park station. This is the metro route my son uses to commute to office every day," Annapoorni Ganeshan told The News Minute.

Officials from Human Resources department from Infosys, Bengaluru, Pune and Brussels have been keeping in touch with the family. 

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj earlier tweeted that the government was trying hard to locate him.

“They said that his name does not appear in the casualty list nor in the injured list. They are leaving to one hall where a few attack victims with minor injuries have been lodged for treatment.They are saying some people are conscious some others are unconscious, so I am just hoping the Infosys officials recognise him. His friends are also looking for him in the city,” said Raghavendra’s mother.

“The manager of the Brussels company, Proximus whose project he is handling is also keeping in touch with me,”she said.

“He had come to India last month. His wife gave birth to a child last month. They are in Chennai” she said.

"Following the attacks in Brussels, Infosys reached out to all its employees in the city to ascertain their whereabouts and safety. With the exception of one employee who we are trying to reach, we have been able to connect with all other employees. We are in touch with the missing employee’s family and are working with the Indian Embassy and local authorities in Brussels to locate our employee on priority,"said Infosys spokesperson.
