Hindu groups in Colorado are upset over a brand of beer called “Hanuman”.

The beer made by a Colorado-based company Odd 13 Brewing Inc, produces different brands of beers each of which they claim, have a character or a personality. Hanuman has been described as a kind, shape-shifting super-monkey by the company. Its website further says that each time Hanuman is brewed, the hop variety is changed. “On one visit, Hanuman might be bright and citrusy, on another, he will be herbal and piny”.

Hindu groups have termed this highly inappropriate and have protested against the usage of Hindu concepts, symbols for commercial or other agenda. Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, said that “Lord Hanuman’s name should not be used in selling beer for mercantile greed.
