After Donald Trump shattered expectations and won the U S Presidential elections on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Trump on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, he "appreciated the friendship" Trump"articulated towards India during his election campaign".
"We look forward to working with you closely to take India-US bilateral ties to a new height," Modi tweeted.

During the elections, a section of American Hindus, also supporters of Narendra Modi, had rallied for Trump.
