Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal dies at 89

Singhal has been the working president of the VHP for over two decades

Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal who was admitted in a private hospital in Gurgaon succumbed to his ailments on Tuesday.

Singhal (89) who was suffering from multiple ailments of the heart and kidney had been on life-support systems in the ICU in Medanta - The Medicity hospital where he was admitted on Saturday.

Praveen Togadia of the BJP said, "Mr Singhal died at 2.24 PM at Medanta Medicity hospital, Gurgaon."

Earlier on Sunday, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, union ministers Rajnath Singh and Uma Bharti  came to meet the senior leader.

Singhal has been the working president of the VHP for over two decades. He joined the organization as the joint general secretary in 1984 after being deputed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
