A day after e-tailer Snapdeal witnessed a Twitter-onslaught with the hashtag #NoToSnapdeal after its brand ambassador and actor Aamir Khan spoke out on the intolerance debate, Snapdeal has put out a statement on the issue.
“Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity," the company wrote.
It also went on to say that "Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India."
Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal has also come to the company's rescue.
"This is a flawed logic. Brands don't buy into brand ambassadors personal opinions. @snapdeal shouldn't face this," Bansal tweeted.
Meanwhile ANI reported that a sedition case has been filed against Aamir Khan in a Kanpur court.
Reports also suggest that the actor has asked Kiran (his wife) to leave Mumbai for 2-3 days since he has been worried about her safety.
The 50-year-old actor has been in the news after he spoke at The Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony in New Delhi on Monday and said that “I can't deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents."
He also supported the 'Award wapsi' by various individuals over the past month and said "A number of creative people - historians, scientists - increasingly had a certain feeling in them, which they felt they need to express. For creative people, one of the ways of expressing their dissatisfaction or their disappointment is to return their awards. I think that's one way of getting your point across.”
Taking a dig at the ‘Award Wapsi’ trend, an #AppWapsi trend also did the rounds on the micro-blogging website.
'Godrej', another product that was endorsed by the actor also received some backlash on Twitter but it was quick to reply.
The Snapdeal app also received a flurry of one star reviews on Google Play, the android app store and many even uninstalled the app from their phones.
