Manish Singh has alleged that it was Sooraj who provoked him and he too was attacked.

Written by : TNM Staff

Two days after Sooraj, a PhD student in IIT Madras was attacked allegedly over his participation in a beef fest on the campus, Kerala CM has written to his counterpart in Tamil Nadu

In his letter, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has asked TN CM Eddapadi Palanisamy to take action against the perpetrators.

While Sooraj underwent a surgery on his eye, Manish Singh, the student who attacked him has also been hospitalised.

Manish Singh has alleged that it was Sooraj who provoked him and he too was attacked.

Though Kerala CM had condemned the incident within a few hours of its occurrence, TN CM has not issued any statement on the same.

You can read the full letter below:

I would like to bring to your attention to the the dastardly attack on the students at IIT Madras, allegedly on the ground that they have taken part in the ‘beef fest’. The incident has deeply disturbed the student community at the campus. Suraj, a research scholar has had serious injury on his right eye.

You would certainly agree that elite institution like IIT Madras is a place for high learning, open debates and discussions and the students irrespective of their background have the right of preference to their choice of food. Any vitriolic and hateful attack on students undermines the secular fabric and hinders the culture of harmony in educational institutions.

I would, therefore, request for your urgent intervention to contain the atmosphere of hatred in the institution and direct all the concerned authorities to take action against the perpetrators of violent hate crime against the student at IIT Madras.
