The Chennai police on Tuesday arrested two men under the POCSO Act for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to the police, 21-year-old Mohan, who hails from Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh, had befriended the 14-year-old Chennai girl over the phone a few weeks ago.

After holding some conversations over the phone for a few weeks, the two allegedly got into a relationship. When the girl’s parents came to know about this, they warned her, according to news reports.

Mohan had promised the girl that he would marry her. On December 7, Mohan came to Royapuram and with the help of his friend Vijay, who hails from Tiruvallur, he took the girl to Andhra Pradesh. According to a report in the New Indian Express, Mohan took the girl to Vijay’s house, sexually assaulted her and dropped her back in Chennai the same night.

After the girl told the incident to her mother, her parents filed a police complaint against the two. Mohan and Vijay were arrested on Tuesday under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Recently, a police officer’s son was arrested for sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl in the police quarters in which his family and the victim’s family lived. The 22-year-old youth reportedly took the girl to the terrace of the building and showed her obscene images stored on his mobile phone. The girl raised an alarm and told her parents about this, who then entered into an argument with the police officer’s family about the behaviour of the boy. The victim’s family then filed a complaint and the youngster was arrested under POCSO Act and remanded to judicial custody.

Last week, the Chennai police also arrested a 28-year-old woman for sexually assaulting a teen boy after his parents filed a ‘missing person’ complaint with the police.
