Less than two weeks after the Anna University lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch CID over a paper leak at the institution, the case has been cracked. Two persons, a student and an engineering graduate have been arrested. However, an official of the University who facilitated in getting the paper remains absconding.

According to the CBCID, the question paper for MA6251-Mathematics-II was conducted on December 1, 2018. However, the paper had been leaked much earlier than the actual date. Following this, a complaint was lodged by the Controller of Examination on December 7.

A press note from the CBCID said, “Crime Branch CID team has been probing the case for the past 10 days to solve the mystery behind the leakage of question paper. Owing to the incessant efforts, CBCID team solved the case and effected the arrest of two accused viz. Suresh Kumar, S/o.Kishore Kumar, and Harikrishnan, S/o.Anbuselvam, today viz 19.12.2018.”

While Suresh Kumar, a student of B.E (CSE) in RMK College of Engineering and Technology, completed his graduation in 2016, Harikrishnan, a student of B.Tech (I.T) in Kings College of Engineering, Sriperumbudur, had an arrear paper and hence was still appearing for the examination, the police said.

In order to clear the arrear paper, Harikrishnan approached his childhood friend Suresh Kumar to explore the possibility of getting a copy of question paper. The police found that Suresh Kumar got a copy of the question paper from one of his relatives working in the Office of Controller of Examination, Anna University.

After obtaining the leaked question paper from Suresh Kumar, Harikrishnan didn’t just use it for himself, but also circulated it amongst his friends.

According to the police, while Suresh Kumar and Harikrishnan have been arrested and remanded in custody, Suresh Kumar's relative from the Office of the Controller of Examinations in absconding.
