Chennai’s Guindy Industrial Estate to face a 7-hour power cut on Wednesday

Some parts of Chennai including Guindy will be facing a power cut from 9am to 4pm on Wednesday (May 8).

In a press release, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) said that power supply will be interrupted due to maintenance work scheduled on Wednesday. It also stated that power supply will be restored in these areas if the maintenance work is completed early.

The list of areas which will face power-cuts on Wednesday are:

Sothuperumbedu area:

Sothuperumbedu, Karanodai, Athur, Devaneri, Solavaram [Entire], Sirunium, Angadu, Orakadu, Budur, Gnayeru, Nerkundram and from Arumanthai to Vichur.

Guindy area:

Guindy Industrial Estate, Ambal nagar, Ekkattuthangal, Kalaimakal Nagar part, Anna Salai part, Labour colony, Sundar Nagar, JN Salai, Balaji Nagar and Poonamallee Salai.

Tamil Nadu depends on thermal power from October to April every year to meet the demand in the state. Between May and September, the state is powered by wind power at night and by solar power in the daytime.

TANGEDCO topped the list of state-owned power distribution companies that imported coal in the financial year 2018-19. According to reports, the quantity of coal imported by TANGEDCO till December 2018 stood at 21.15 lakh tonnes while the figure for the corresponding period in the previous years was 11.07 lakh tonnes.
