It is no secret that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's family is overly sensitive to criticism. There have been two attempts in the recent past to gag the media from reporting adverse news about the family and its movies.In a latest development, the Bengaluru police has filed an FIR against actor Rajinikanth's wife Latha Rajinikanth over alleged submission of fake documents in a Bengaluru court to ensure a media gag order was issued.  The issue is a bit complicated, so we will break it down for you.It all began in December 2014, when Latha Rajinikanth, obtained a gag order against 95 media publications in India. The move came after she approached the court for a temporary injunction against any reports related to herself or her family on allegations made by Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd that she had cheated them by double selling the rights of the film Kochadaiiyaan in Tamil Nadu. The company alleged that it had given Rs. 10 crore to the movie’s makers. In a police complaint filed in November 2014, against Latha and Kochadaiiyaan producer J Murali Manohar, Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd accusing them of cheating after agreeing to provide them distribution rights rights for the movie in Tamil Nadu and was also given an investment of Rs. 10 crore after a  guarantee by Latha Rajinikanth. Latha retaliated with a legal notice issued to Ad Bureau, refuting all charges. She then got a temporary injunction against media, after her counsel filed a letter printed along with the letter head “Publishers and Broadcasters Welfare Association of India”.The letter acting on “behalf of all media companies and concerns of India” states that Ad Bureau had made allegations against her and also questions the possibility of other defendants reporting. Latha Rajinikanth's counsel also said that it was an attempt to “assassinate her character". But it now seems that the letter was not authentic and  “The Publishers and Broadcasters Welfare Association of India” had no relations to the Press Club of Bangalore.A police complaint was filed by Ad Bureau in January, 2015. Meanwhile, the Press Club of Bangalore too confirmed that the Publishers and Broadcasters Welfare Association of India had no connection to it, and did not exist under its banner in a letter to Ad Bureau, said a report.Bengaluru police have now filed an FIR in the case against Latha Rajinikanth on charges of filing false documents in a court on charges of cheating and dishonesty. The media can now report on the case as the Madras High Court vacated the gag order in March 2015, with the judge saying "I do not find anything wrong in publication of news item in newspapers. Press reports cannot be treated as defamatory statement.” However, Mediaone defended itself saying that the agency had been trying to “blackmail” both the company and Latha. The producer also said that a legal notice directing them to pay Rs. 10 crore had contained various derogatory remarks against Rajinikanth’s family.“It has been stated that Mr.R.Rajinikanth enjoys huge popularity all over India and World Wide as a popular actor and by suggesting innuendos in the legal notice dated 11.11.2014, the defendants have indulged in libel and making defamatory statements, which has the effect of tarnishing the image of both the plaintiff and also the family of Mr.Rajinikanth,” said the producer according to the March order.Stating that Ad Bureau would have gone to the press anytime with its “misconceived“ right over the movie, a complaint was filed in December against them by Mediaone for an injunction.Not the first timeThis is not the first time a temporary injunction has been filed relating to the Rajinikanth family. In February, a Bengaluru court gave orders preventing major news groups from publishing any negative news against Rajinikanth or his movie, Lingaa. Producer of Lingaa, 'Rockline' Venkatesh earlier sought a permanent injunction over the bad publicity by some distributors. Following this around 80 publications as listed in the petition were restrained from publishing any negative news on Lingaa and Rajinikanth.Other controversiesLatha Rajinikanth and Kochadaiiyaan have faced more issues in the past. In December, , Latha Rajinikanth found mention after Exim Bank announced that it was taking into its possession a  2.13 acre property at Kanchipuram belonging to Latha over default in payment of Rs. 22.21 crore due in July 2014, reported Financial Express. Mediaone Global Entertainment then responded saying that the bank’s move was unwarranted and the company was in the process of clearing the loan by March 31, 2015.Even way back in 2007 the family faced trouble when Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya began her mammoth project, the animated movie titled Sultan. The project was shelved, however, its co-producers Reliance Films took Ocher Studios owned by Soundarya to court – for not paying Rs 11.59 crore in outstanding dues.Ocher was then dragged to court when financiers of "Goa", Soundaraya’s next production, took the company to court.Ocher Studios was soon shut down when Rana, a project Rajinikanth intended to do with his friend and director KS Ravikumar was also shelved when the superstar fell sick. Even though her production house, Ocher was shut down, she quickly made her way back with her work on the Rs. 120 crore Kochadaiiyyan movie in 2011.
