IIT Madras tragedy: Two drown in campus lake

A group of seven had reportedly jumped over the IIT-M wall to swim in the lake.

In a tragic incident at the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, two persons have reportedly drowned at the lake on the campus.

The lake is a source of fresh water to the campus, located towards the eastern boundary wall.

According to initial reports, seven people had reportedly jumped over the wall into the IIT-M campus in order to swim in the lake. Two of them fell into the lake and drowned in the process.

The campus security officer has confirmed to TNM that the two persons were not students of the campus. “The police is investigating the matter. We are at the site,” said the officer.
