Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road in Chennai at around 11pm on Thursday.

A medical bulletin released by the hospital in the wee hours of Friday says, “The honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, with fever and dehydration. The honourable madam is stable and under observation.”

According to sources, Jayalalithaa was taken by a special convoy to the hospital. She was accompanied by her aide Sasikala.

A medical bulletin released by the hospital on Friday afternoon stated that the Chief Minister no longer has a fever and is on a normal diet. They, however, added that she is under observation.

Besides Sasikala, sources say those present inside the hospital include, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, Health Minister Dr Vijaya Bhaskar, Health Secretary Radhakrishnan and Finance Minister O Pannerselvam.

The 68-year-old Chief Minister suffers from diabetes, cellulitis, hypertension and other ailments. This was disclosed by her legal counsel in her bail plea at the Karnataka High Court in 2014 following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalithaa’s last public appearance was on Wednesday, when she inaugurated the metro rail service from Chennai Airport to Little Mount via video conference in the presence of Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Pon Radhakrishnan.
