A public interest litigation has been filed by a lawyer in New Delhi at the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe in the death of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minster J Jayalalithaa. The PIL has not been accepted to be heard by the court yet.
Saravanan, a lawyer reportedly representing the Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi, a Chennai-based NGO, has moved the SC through a writ petition and sought all the medical documents relating to her treatment and death at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
The petition reportedly alleges that her death is suspicious and that her medical condition could have been worsened intentionally by those around her.
The petition also seeks an order stating that all commercial or financial transactions relating to Jayalalithaa’s wealth be stayed till the conclusion of the Disproportionate Assets case.
The DA case is still pending in the apex court, and Jayalalithaa, her aide Sasikala, Sasikala’s niece Ilavarasi and Jayalalithaa’s adopted-and-later-abandoned foster son Sudhakaran are accused in the case.
Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi is not the only to seek a probe into the 68-year-old leader’s death. RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy also sought an investigation into whether proper procedure was followed in Jayalalithaa’s treatment.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on September 22, and breathed her last at 11 30pm on December 5. Her funeral was attended by tens of thousands of people.
