DMK President MK Stalin on Sunday met with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and INC President Rahul Gandhi in the former’s residence in New Delhi. Stalin wished Sonia Gandhi on her birthday and reportedly discussed a wide range of issues.

In New Delhi a day before the first meeting of all leaders who are part of the Grand Alliance against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, Stalin met the senior Congress leader accompanied by former Union Ministers TR Baalu and A Raja, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and other senior leaders.

Before leaving to New Delhi, Stalin spoke to the reporters at the Chennai airport and said that Congress President Rahul Gandhi has called for a meeting of all the opposition parties in New Delhi and had invited Stalin to represent the DMK. “I accepted the invitation and am going to participate in the meeting. On December 16, the statue of Kalaignar is to be unveiled by Sonia Gandhi. I will be giving the invitations to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the function,” he said.

Adding that he will discuss the Mekedatu issue with Sonia Gandhi, he said, “If the Chief Minister of Karnataka attends the opposition parties meeting tomorrow, I will definitely raise the Mekedatu issue with him as well.”

After the meeting, Stalin took to Twitter to convey his birthday wishes to Sonia Gandhi. “I wish Sonia Gandhi, a leader who has firm belief on secular values, a very happy birthday. Long live Sonia Gandhi, who was instrumental in laying the foundation for declaring Tamil, a classical language, according to a request by the DMK party,” he tweeted.

INC President Rahul Gandhi tweeted that the DMK President and other senior leaders had indeed visited his mother on her birthday and that the leaders discussed a wide range of issues during the brief meeting. “Shri Stalin & senior members of the DMK, visited Sonia Ji in Delhi today, to wish her on her birthday. We had a warm & cordial meeting & discussed a range of issues. I look forward to continuing our dialogue & to strengthening our alliance, that has stood the test of time,” he tweeted.

Stalin then quoted the tweet and stated that the Congress and the DMK alliance would always work for the unity of the country. “Thank you Thiru @RahulGandhi for your warm words. Likeminded ideologies lead to meaningful discussions and fruitful outcomes. The Congress and DMK alliance will always work towards strengthening the unity and inclusivity of our country,” he tweeted.
