Student murder at Vijayakant-linked college: HC orders police report

The victim was the student of an engineering college run by relatives of DMDK chief Vijayakant.

The Madras High Court today directed police to file by July 12 a status report on the suspicious death of a student of an engineering college run by relatives of actor-turned-politician and DMDK chief Vijayakant.

The father of the boy, a third year student at Andal Azhagar College of Engineering at Mamandur in Kancheepuram district, filed a plea seeking a probe by CB-CID into the death.

P Seeralan alleged his son's death on April 30 was not due to electrocution as claimed by the college authorities but a murder.

He alleged the investigation by local police was ineffective and sought CB-CID probe.

Justice P N Prakash, before whom the petition came up, directed the Inspector of Police, Padalam Police Station in Kancheepuram to file the status report by July 12.
