The Madras High Court today directed police to file by July 12 a status report on the suspicious death of a student of an engineering college run by relatives of actor-turned-politician and DMDK chief Vijayakant.

The father of the boy, a third year student at Andal Azhagar College of Engineering at Mamandur in Kancheepuram district, filed a plea seeking a probe by CB-CID into the death.

P Seeralan alleged his son's death on April 30 was not due to electrocution as claimed by the college authorities but a murder.

He alleged the investigation by local police was ineffective and sought CB-CID probe.

Justice P N Prakash, before whom the petition came up, directed the Inspector of Police, Padalam Police Station in Kancheepuram to file the status report by July 12.
