After the death of a person who had gone swimming, the Coast Guard while observing that the beaches in coastal Tamil Nadu were not safe due to tidal current and steep depth, has advised people to avoid swimming in beaches.

After retrieving the body of Ameer Basha who had gone missing since last night while bathing off Ramakrishnan Nagar Beach in Ennore, Chennai, Coast Guard said the body of missing person was recovered after it drifted to two nautical miles away from shoreline due to "tidal current and tidal waves".

"As per the information received about the missing of Basha last night while he had gone swimming in Ramakrishnan Nagar beach, Coast Guard launched an extensive rescue operation today", an official release said.

Coast Guard Helicopter 'CG 801' after taking up search for more than two hours recovered the body from deep sea as it was drifted due to "tidal current and waves".

"Because of strong summer condition people venture into sea for recreational swimming. Beaches along Tamil Nadu coastline are not safe due to tidal current and steep depth has caused many casualties in recent past", it said.
