With several parts of Chennai inundated and more rains to follow, several people are coming forward to help the people of the city through cash or kind. At the centre of this storm of compassion, is social media – which has become a rallying point for those offering help and the ones needing it.

The News Minute has started an online campaign, "Help Chennai", on Ketto to help victims of the Chennai flood across affected regions. We will be providing emergency food rations, water, sanitation facilities and hygiene support to the affected people.

The organisation is focusing on rescue, food & medicines. Central kitchens are preparing food, and they volunteers with tempos and vehicles who can ply through water logged areas. They also need funds to keep up the supply. Their initial aim is to supply 10,000 packets a day to supplement the massive government efforts.

As part of the chennairains.org website, a Google form has been made to help connect those who want to donate relief and aid material. You can supply food, water, medicines or even transport facilities. Check details here.

Zomato: For every Chennai Flood Relief meal bought for two by individuals, Zomato will buy one and have them delivered to those in need. On Wednesday, Zomato temporarily put on hold this service after users bought over 55k meals and the company sponsored another 55k meals.
The service can be expected to resume on Thursday afternoon, depending on Zomato's distribution of the earlier batch of orders.
"We're pausing to ensure our restaurant partners aren't choked. We want to deliver well on the trust you placed in us. We will find more capacity tomorrow and try to switch this on again," Zomato said on a Facebook post.

A group of volunteers from Bengaluru are collecting old but usable woolens, blankets, beds sheets and any other clothing that you don't use anymore. You are most welcome to buy new ones and donate if you wish to. Any torn or unusable item will not be accepted.
