As many as 260 people lost their lives due to the heat wave in Telangana since the onset of summer this year even as a few parts of the state, including the capital, have been receiving sporadic rains for last several days.

"No report (of deaths) yesterday and today; 260 till Saturday (May 7)," an official of the state disaster management department said on Sunday.

The highest number of 80 deaths were reported from Nalgonda district.

Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana have been receiving sporadic rains for the last several days, which brought down the soaring temperatures considerably. Gusty winds, accompanying rain, uprooted trees at different places in the state last few days.

In its "squall/ hail warning for next two days for Telangana", the India Meteorological Department said thunderstorm, accompanied with squall or hail would "very likely" occur at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Khammam on Monday and Tuesday.
