The accused in the drunk driving case in Hyderabad that has left five-year-old Sanjana battling for her life, had reportedly purchased alcohol a day before the accident, as October 2 was a dry day.
The Times of India reported:
Software professionals Venkat Ramana, Yadi Reddy and Srinivasulu...had realised that liquor would not be available on Gandhi Jayanthi day and stocked up enough alcohol the previous day itself, but ignored the rule that driving under the influence of alcohol might land them in trouble. Moreover, police's lax attitude may help the trio to go scot-free as crucial evidence was lost.
According to the report, the three friends had gone to the outskirts of the city to look at some plots to purchase and had consumed the alcohol near a water body at Kothagudem before heading back towards the city in an inebriated condition.
The trio also allegedly threw away some liquor bottles which were in the car after the accident.
At around 10 pm, Sanjana and her mother Sridevi were hit by the speeding car when they were crossing the road from the bus stop at Pedda Amberpet near Hayathnagar.
Sanjana, who was hit on the head was immediately rushed to the hospital along with her mother. She is presently on ventilator support while her mother is in the ICU.
Sanjana’s older sister, Pravallika, who was also with them at the time, escaped injury.
The accused were granted bail within two days of the incident.
