Controversial BJP MLA Raja Singh from Hyderabad is back in the news, this time after he said that he would ‘shoot’ Bangladeshi settlers in Assam, who refused to leave India.

The first complete draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) comprising names of 2,89,83,677 people of Assam, was published on Monday and turned into a major row as 40,07,707 had been left out of the list as they failed to prove their Indian citizenship.

In a video posted on his official Facebook page, the Goshamahal MLA said, “Today, a very good decision was taken. I agree completely with the NRC’s decision because what work do these Bangaldeshis have in India? They are living in Assam with an intention to destroy India. The Centre must take steps to send them back as soon as possible. This is my request.”

“If these people don’t leave our country peacefully, I believe that there is a need to make them understand in another language, just like in other countries, they are shot and made to flee, in India as well, if they don't leave, there is a need to shoot them and make them leave with bullets (sic)," he added.

This comes even as another statement of the controversial legislator surfaced on social media, which shows him addressing a crowd and saying, “Anyone who is born in this country and doesn't utter ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ is a son of b***h and we will deport him of out of this country.”

However, it is unclear as to when the MLA made this statement.

Raja Singh is a repeat offender having been charged multiple times in the past of hate speech. On a number of occasions, the MLA has been accused of making inflammatory statements and speeches, particularly against Muslims.

The Rajya Sabha was paralysed on the issue of the NRC list this week, with the Opposition accusing the ruling party of playing divisive politics ahead of parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said the final draft of NRC cannot be the basis for any coercive action by any authority.

"What has been published is a complete draft NRC. It can't be the basis for any action by any authority," said a bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman as Attorney General KK Venugopal pointed to the serious human problem.

The court was informed by the Attorney General that the Standard Operating Procedure giving the modalities for dealing with the claims and procedures will be prepared by the concerned ministry by August 15.
