Hyd police arrest three Kashmiri students for not standing up during national anthem

The students were booked under Section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Anthem Honour Act.

 Hyderabad police arrested three Kashmiri students for not standing up for the national anthem on Saturday. The students ­— identified as Jameel Gul, Omar Faiz and Mudassir Shabbier — were booked under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Anthem Honour Act.

 They are residents of Baramulla in Kashmir, and are currently pursuing engineering in a private college in Chevella.

 According to reports, the students went to Cinepolis, Mantra Mall to watch Bareilly ki Barfi at noon. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, the national anthem was played, for which the trio didn’t stand up.

 The complaint was lodged on behalf of the theatre management.

 The Times of India reported that it was a senior cop, who went to watch the movie who noticed that these students didn’t respect the national anthem, following which he alerted the Rajendra Nagar police.

The students were detained and questioned for over three hours till late in the night on Saturday, the Times of India report added.

Before letting them off after securing bail, the police raided their residences in Tolichowki suspecting them of indulging in some anti-national activity.
