A Class 4 student in Hyderabad suffered injuries to his head on Saturday allegedly after his school teacher hit him with an aluminium rod for not doing his homework.

The studies in Narayan School, Alwal.

According to the boy’s father, Shiva Kumar, he received a call from the school informing him that his son had fallen down and had suffered injuries. However, when he rushed the boy to the hospital, the school authorities admitted that he was beaten by his computer science teacher.

The school authorities purportedly asked the father to not blow up the issue and told him that they would pay for his medical expenses.

Fearing that the boy would later be harassed by the school if he approached the police, Shiva Kumar didn’t file a complaint.

However, Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS) – a child welfare organization – took up the cause and filed a complaint with the Cyberabad commissioner and the Alwal police.

BHS president, Achyuta Rao, said that the school had violated two laws laid down by the government – the one being beating a student and the other one being giving homework to students below Class 5.

Rao said, “The student was suffering from fever and couldn’t attend school for the last two days … Obviously he would have missed the classes and wouldn’t have completed his homework. Without taking this into consideration, the teacher beat him.”

Rao added that stringent actions should be taken against such teachers to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.

Speaking to TNM, Alwal Inspector, V Srikanth Goud, said that they have received a complaint and would book a case under the Child Protection Act and other relevant sections.
