GHMC worker gets selected for award under Swachh Bharath Mission

A Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) worker, has been selected as the ‘Best Worker’ under Swachh Bharath Mission.

T Venkataiah will be given the award at the launch of Swachh Survekeshan at National Media Center in New Delhi on August 6, 2016.

He has been working as a Garbage Collector in Rajendranagar area of Hyderabad and is well noted in Babulreddynagar slum and Raghavendra colony.

“Venkataiah is a sincere worker who has never taken leave. He promptly collects waste from houses because of which he got this recognition on a national platform. We are proud of him today,” said his higher officials.    

Venkataiah was also appreciated by Deputy Commissioner, Rajendranagar and he received a cash award from Raghavendra Colony.

Venkataiah is one amongst the three best workers who got selected by the Mission Director of Swachh Bharat mission, Ministry of Urban Development.

For getting national recognition for his work, Urban development minister K Taraka Ramarao felicitated Venkataiah and also personally awarded him a cheque of Rs. 1,11,111. He was also given Rs. one lakh from GHMC.

“I cannot sleep if the roads under my jurisdiction are not clean. This is the reason I have not taken a single leave since last sixteen years, said Venkataiah.
