MIM-Congress activists clash in Hyderabad, following arrest of Congress candidate

The clash between MIM party activists and Congress supporters near Mir Chowk police station turned violent

Tension prevailed at Mir Chowk on Tuesday after TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy's car was attacked by MIM activists, following a clash with Congress supporters.

The clash began after the arrest of Congress candidate Mohammad Ghouse and a Charminar legislator. Ghouse, who recently resigned from the MIM to join the Congress, and MIM leader and Charminar legislator Ahmed Pasha Khadri were arrested in Khilwat when they clashed near a polling station after accusing each other of influencing voters. 

The clash between MIM party activists and Congress supporters near Mir Chowk police station turned violent and police was forced to resort to lathicharge to control the stone-pelting mobs.

TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy rushed to Mir Chowk police station and condemned the arrest.

On a complaint made by TPCC, State Election Commissioner Shri V Nagi Reddy instructed the police commissioner to release Mohammad Ghouse, who is a Congress candidate from Puranapool.

Ghouse was later released after demands by Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar and Shabbir Ali. 

Congress Party workers and leaders are staging a dharna in front of the DGP office, Lakdikapul to protest against the attack.
