In view of heavy traffic snarls being witnessed in Madhapur and Hitec city with the onset of monsoon in Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory identifying the locations where water logging takes place, and suggesting alternate routes to commuters.
The major water logging locations according to the police include Nectar Gardens on the road connecting Madhapur to Road No 45, near City wines, Ayyappa society, the road connecting cyber towers junction to Neeru’s/kavuri hills junction and vice versa, near Shilparamam on the road between Hitex Charminar and Cyber towers junction and near Raheja Mindspace campus entrance at Underpass on the road between cyber gateway and Mindspace.
Citing the reasons for traffic snarls, the police said, "As the recession of storm water at the above places is taking its time, the traffic gets piled up on the roads. Approximately, half an hour of water logging at Shilparamam would lead to congestion at Kothaguda, Botanical gardens and Gachibowli for almost 2 to 3 hours. It would take 2 to 3 hours of hard work by traffic police in regulating and normalising the traffic."
"However, considering the critical nature of these areas (connectivity to airport, ORR, Hospitals etc), it is felt that suggestion of alternative routes which are comparatively less affected by water logging to the general public would help them in planning their travels conveniently," the police added.
The police advised commuters to avoid Durgam Cheruvu and the route to Hitec city via road no 45. It also asked people to avoid Cyber Towers, 100 ft road, Kavuri Hills junction and road no 36 as much as possible, during showers.
On the Gachibowli-Financial District route, the police said that the routes to avoid were Kothaguda junction, Hitex signal and Cyber Towers.
It suggested that those going home from Gachibowli and Financial District could take routes leading to JNTU, Kukatpally, Kondapur and Hafeezpet in one direct and Gachibowli stadium, University of Hyderabad, Nallagandla and BHEL in the other direction.
"Public need to obey the directions of the traffic police on roads and they should not go in opposite/wrong direction as that would create chaos which will further complicate the situation," the police stated.
